How do I wire 4 speakers with a sub that has 4 sets of inputs, 2 for “hi level out” and 2 for “hi level in”?
The system is an Audiofile Home Theater system, with 2 3′x1′ speakers, 4 3″x6″ surround sound speakers and a subwoofer. There is a “Hi Level Out” input section with left and right inputs, and a “Hi Level In” input section with the same. Do I add all the surround speaker lines into the “Hi Level Out” section with the left-side speakers going to the corresponding inputs, or should I give each speaker its own set of inputs? How do I connect the 3′x1′ speakers?
First of all, two important distinctions – A high level connection is one generally used for stereo audio setup (therefore the connections for two speakers). It simply retains frequencies below what you set on the dial for the subwoofer and passes the rest on to the speakers. If that’s the only connections you have, set up the from two speakers in this manner (not the surround speakers).
For Home theater setup, you will need an RCA cable into the low level or LFE connector on the subwoofer. That’s the most appropriate one for Home Theater – that’s how discs are encoded and it passes the low frequency signals directly on to the subwoofer.
