how do i get this surround sound system to work with tv and xbox360 with true 5.1?

i think there are no inputs at all in the surround sound system so i know i would need an optical cable but i am unsure of the set up and don’t want to purchase anything yet till i have a solid idea. thanks for the help!
When you say TRUE 5.1, do you mean DOLBY TRUE HD? If so, you can not get DOLBY TRUE HD without an hdmi 1.3a connection. If you are looking for DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1, than all you need is a fiber optic cable or digital coax. Both are standard on most surround sound receivers and should provide you with fantastic sound. The xbox 360 has a fiber optic output so that is the cable you will need to purchase. Look at the back of your surround sound receiver. There should be a tiny input that doesnt look like the rest of the inputs. It may say “digital fiber optic” or “digital tos-link”. They are both the same, just different names. Good luck!
